The Rye Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tricia Murray honored the entire 2026 Rye Varsity Hockey team on Tuesday, April 14, as all students on the team received a Rye Recognition of Excellence Award. The team also received certificates from Deputy Mayor James Ward, State Assemblyman Steve Otis, and State Senator Shelley Mayer.
“What makes this accomplishment especially meaningful is the team’s journey,” Dr. Murray said at the Board of Ed meeting. “After falling behind early in the title game, the Garnets responded with composure and determination, scoring five unanswered goals to secure the win. Throughout the postseason, they rose to every challenge, defeating Aquinas and Clarence before earning a measure of redemption against Byram Hills on the biggest stage.”
The Rye Recognition of Excellence Award celebrates outstanding student accomplishments in academics, the arts, and athletics. Rye Hockey captured the award on the heels of the program’s first ever New York State championship, which they earned on March 15, 2026.
