The Rye YMCA Club Swim team, the WaveRyeders, secured first place at the Westchester-Fairfield League championship meet in March 2026, excelling across several different age groups. The team also finished in eighth place at the New York State championship week from March 20-22 to cap off a successful season.
“These swimmers represent the heart of what the YMCA stands for – hard work, perseverance, and supporting one another as a team,” Head Coach Kate Tiedemann said after the final heat. “Their success in the pool reflects the friendships, confidence, and sense of belonging they’ve built together.”
At the League championships, the WaveRyeders accounted for multiple individual event winners across five different age brackets. Nora Kelly, Devin Zheng, and Antonio Petgrave came in first among 8U athletes; Amelia Harrington, Catherine Martin, and Jason Lin at the 10U level; Kimberly Pan, Chiara Sardinas, Annachiara Jones, and Babette Lucaroni at 12U; Ela Karakaya, Avery Balestra, and Ollie Ashlock in the 14U division; and Sigal Cutler and Gianmarco Miraglia among 18U competitors.
The State championships, held on Long Island, saw the WaveRyeder boys finish seventh place and the girls in eighth, for a total team score good for 8th overall.
Four of the swimmers are graduating seniors: Miraglia, Alex Pinnock, Ella Godden, and Kiera Palmer. All four have made lasting impacts on the program and served as key leaders for the newest league champions in 2026.
