Athlete of the Month is a series where MyRye.com profiles the best athletes of each month throughout the academic year, as selected by Rye Athletics. Today, we look at senior Beau Whaling of the Rye Girls Lacrosse team, who earned Rye High School’s Athlete of the Month honors for April 2026.
Whaling entered the 2026 season expecting to shoulder a large responsibility as Rye’s projected offensive leader. She has risen to the occasion since day one, helping Rye to a 6-0 record since Tax Day. In the midst of the Garnet’s hot streak, Whaling scored her 100th career goal at the varsity level as part of a four-goal showing on April 25, and she has continued to put balls in the net all season long. A captain, Whaling sets the standard for what a winning process looks like on a winning program.
“[Whaling] is an extremely hard worker, very focused, and a team-first player,” head coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com. “She is always willing to play any role asked of her and is so well-respected by her teammates and coaches because of her positive attitude and exemplary leadership.”
This year is Whaling’s fourth and final year at the varsity level, a career which includes a Section championship and extended run in the State tournament in 2024. Her goal scoring, playmaking, draw control abilities, and leadership have helped the Garnets to an 8-3 record as of May 4, including zero losses to New York teams.
“[Whaling] has been a very active member of the Rye Lacrosse community since she was a kid,” Mason concluded. “Beau is an all-around strong student-athlete.”
Whaling will be heading to Duke to continue her lacrosse career as a member of the Blue Devils’ class of 2030. Before then, the attacker will look to bring postseason success to the Garnets in search of redemption on an abrupt ending to 2025.
Whaling becomes the eighth Rye High School senior to win Athlete of the Month this academic year, joining Will Weinman (hockey, March 2026), Phoebe Greto (girls basketball, February 2026), Jack Anderson (wrestling, January 2026), Carson Miller (football, December 2025), Clare Nemsick (girls soccer, November 2025), Lex Cox (boys soccer, October 2025) and Emma Lunstead (volleyball, September 2025).
