The Rye Boys Lacrosse team saw their seven-game win streak come to an end on Saturday, May 2, as the Garnets fell to Port Washington 11-9. The visiting Garnets got off to a slow start, and their comeback effort fell short, as an early deficit proved to be too much to overcome.
“We went down 5-0 and climbed back into it, but it was not enough,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com. “We hope to get Wilson back this week.”
Wilson Redd did not play in the defeat, and his presence was sorely missed. Rye won just one of 24 faceoffs, giving Port Washington far too much possession.
Even with Rye starting nearly every sequence on defense, they still reached nine goals. Will Niejadlik, Carson Miller, and Thomas Goldszer all pitched in three points apiece, including a hat trick from Niejadlik. Henry Gilroy added one goal and one assist in another multi-point effort.
Rye (8-3) travels to Yorktown for their next game on Thursday, May 7. The contest begins at 6:00pm.
