
The Rye Baseball team began their postseason journey with a 4-0 victory over Eastchester on Tuesday, May 19, advancing in the Class AA playoffs. The Garnets earned the #1 seed in the Sectional tournament and took advantage of playing at home in Clayton McCarthy’s best start of the season.
McCarthy, a sophomore right hander, hurled a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and six total baserunners. He struck out nine.
Rye scored four runs on seven hits, four of which came from the duo of Jamie Morris and Harry Ellis. Both Garnets recorded multi-hit games and scored a run. Ellis joined Nolan Hutson, Luke Ontaneda, and Ben Fineberg in the RBI column.
Rye (16-5, 1-0 postseason) plays at home again in the next round on Friday, May 22.
