The Rye Boys Rugby team closed out their 2026 regular season in a statement way on Saturday, May 16, as they crushed Rockaway 61-15. The Garnets celebrated senior night before the contest began and then honored their graduating class with a 46-point victory at Nugent Stadium.

“The team successfully closed out its regular season, and senior night, with an emphatic win over Rockaway Rugby 61-15, with strong showing from all players involved,” Assistant Coach Phil Verona told MyRye.com on Monday. “A strong all around showing and complete game for the Garnets, with key contributions coming from all players, with strong kicking from both Will Alexander and Nick Field, strong scrums, and crisp lineouts.”

It was a well-oiled machine at Nugent Stadium for the boys in red. Seniors Yusei Kioke, Hunter Gillies, and Gavin Fitzpatrick all scored tries, as well as underclassmen Kieran Moran, Liam Storz, Benji Kaplan, and several others.

The win helped the Garnets lock down third place in the RugbyNY Met division. That propels them to the New York State postseason, which begins on Sunday, May 31, on Staten Island against Xavier High School.
