The Rye Boys Lacrosse team breezed past Section 9’s Highland in the regional finals on Sunday, June 7, as they advanced to the NYS Final Four with a 19-3 victory. The Garnets did not allow a goal in the second half to claim another trophy and move within two wins of a state title.

“This was a balanced win where our defense led the way, allowing only 3 goals,” Head Coach Jeremy Guski told MyRye.com. “This was a dominant team win and the boys are dialed in, ready for the next round.”

The dominance started in the faceoff circle, where junior Wilson Redd won 16 of 20 draws before being pulled with the Garnets comfortably in front. Jack Logudic recorded his first varsity hat trick with 3 goals and 1 assist in a breakthrough performance. Charlie Brady and Will Niejadlik also both scored hat tricks, combining for seven tallies and two assists.

Henry Shoemaker matched Niejadlik with five points, including a team-leading 4 assists. Senior Eddie Fernades tallied a goal as well to help Rye get all the way to 19. The Garnets won the second half 9-0.

Rye (15-5, 4-0 postseason) faces off against Section 8’s Wantagh High School in their next game on Thursday, June 11. The state semifinals contest takes place at Middletown High School. Wantagh is a Long-Island based high school, which has served as a challenge for the Garnets in this round in prior years.
