The Rye Girls Lacrosse team is back on top of the Section 1 Class C mountain.

The Garnets, willed by a second half surge, defeated the Pelham Pelicans 15-9 in the sectional championship game on Tuesday, June 2, earning the right to partake in the New York State tournament after missing out on that opportunity one year ago.

“The Garnets played a hard fought game against league rivals Pelham and dominated the second half to secure the Section 1 Class C Championship,” Head Coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com after the game. “Huge team effort for the Garnets. Great game between the pipes for Ehrlich.”

After a strong performance in the semifinals, freshman keeper Dylan Ehrlich made another nine stops against the Pelicans to secure the most important victory of her young career. Her defense offered her support at key times, especially across the final 24 minutes, in which the Pelicans mustered just two goals to Rye’s seven.

Annie Toulouse led the Garnets with four assists and six points, although Beau Whaling (five goals, one caused turnover) and Paige Tepedino (four goals, six draw controls) stole the show. Mary Ebeling, Mia Howson, Blake Sasse, and Paloma Pepper all scored as well to help Rye avenge their loss on this stage last year.

Rye (15-4, 3-0 postseason) advances to the state tournament, which first involves the regional championship game on Sunday, June 7. The Garnets face off against Rondout Valley at 2:00pm at Monroe Woodbury High School in Central Valley, NY.
