Joan Deluca, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Rye, NY, after a life marked by devotion to family, service to others, and a warm spirit that touched everyone who knew her. She was a Christian woman whose kindness, humility, and steady presence left a lasting impression on her loved ones, friends, coworkers, and the many students whose lives she brightened over the years.
Joan was born in the Bronx on November 20, 1934, to Rose and Adam Acocelli. She was the youngest of their two daughters and grew up with the values of love, hard work, and perseverance that would guide her throughout her life. She carried those values with her into adulthood, building a life centered on family, responsibility, and quiet strength.
She graduated from Walton High School in Bronx, NY, and began her working life at Greff Fabrics in Port Chester, NY. Joan later found her greatest joy in her years at Rye High School, where she served as an Administrative Assistant and interacted with students each day. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen and supported, and the students who knew her described her as “magical, and simply the best, a savior.” Her dedication and kindness were recognized when she was honored with the prestigious Distinguished Service Award, a fitting tribute to the care and commitment she gave so freely. In her own words, “With the deepest humility, I thank each of you for touching my life.”
Family was the center of Joan’s world. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Vincent, and by her sister, Corinne. She is survived by her daughters, Janet and Debbie, who were a source of deep pride and joy throughout her life. She was affectionately called Nani by her grandchildren, Bryan, Brendon, Jack, Brittany, and Morgan, who cherished her love, guidance, and gentle nature. Joan was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Vincent, Joseph, Jack, Conor, Logan, and Paige, who lovingly called her Great Nani and brought her endless happiness.
After retirement, Joan devoted much of her time to caring for her grandchildren and delighting in the company of her great-grandchildren. She found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of family life, and she embraced new pleasures as well, including audio books, which she eagerly devoured. Her days were enriched by the people she loved and the small comforts that made her feel connected, engaged, and content.
Joan will be remembered for her grace, her devotion, and the genuine warmth she extended to others. She lived a full and meaningful life, one defined by love, service, and faith. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy will continue through the family she cherished and the many lives she touched along the way.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM and on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Resurrection. in Rye, NY. Mausoleum Entombment immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook, NY.
