A 36-year-old Rye man has been arrested on graffiti charges.
The City of Rye Police Department arrested Max G. Basch of Rye following an incident that occurred on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Basch was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (Felony), Making Graffiti, and Possession of Graffiti Instruments. Police announced the arrest on August 13, 2026.
Patrol officers allegedly found Basch in possession of graffiti instruments and discovered graffiti on a Con Edison electrical substation in the area of Five Points, near Kelly’s Sea Level bar and restaurant. Images provided by police authorities show a orange and black graffiti tag in the shape of a tiger. It appears the person that was bitten is Basch himself.
Rye PD reminds you that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

I like the new lions, there is one near Playland as well. It makes those ConEd boxes less boring. I think Mr. Basch is ready for a show at the Rye Arts Center, he can paint an entire menagerie as people drink wine.
