A reported stolen vehicle that entered Rye on Tuesday morning, August 18th, 2026, prompted a pursuit and manhunt by six police agencies, including a police dog, a county police aviation response and local drone dispatch. This is a developing story.

Early Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. a reported stolen vehicle was identified by license plate readers in Larchmont. The vehicle entered the city of Rye, was identified by a Rye police officer, and shortly thereafter went off the Old Post Road and became disabled in a swampy area just in front of the St. Regis Residences apartments. The car contained four subjects, two male and two female, and they all fled the scene.

Rye police officers initially apprehended the first three. The fourth subject remained at large. Additional officers from Rye, Port Chester, Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, as well as support from Westchester County Police, arrived on the scene and helped establish a perimeter to contain the fourth subject. Resources included a police dog for scent tracking, local drone support, and a county police helicopter.

During the search police discovered the subject hiding in a wooded area adjacent to the far side of West Med. Also known as Summit Health, West Med is immediately adjacent to the St. Regis Apartments alongside Playland Access Drive. Across the street from Gabelli Funds and abutting the Osborn campus. Police took the fourth suspect into custody without incident.

One subject sustained a minor injury and was being treated by the Rye-Port Chester Ryebrook EMS. The other suspects are currently being processed at the City of Rye police station. Charges against the four suspects and other details of the vehicle and incident are expected to be released by police later on Tuesday.

“We were fortunate that there were enough resources available at this day during this day time,” Public Safety Commissioner Michael Kopy told MyRye.com, who described the multi-agency response as standard produre. “You’re also searching for four people, so initially we take three in custody, but even the fourth, we had to have people to search the buildings, West Med, some of the corporate buildings that are there, The Osborn. Check every vehicle that’s parked in those commercial parking lots.”

We were fortunate to have the other agencies in the area to help us because these things are labor intensive”
