The Rye Field Hockey team fell to Horace Greeley in overtime on Tuesday, September 15, losing 2-1. The Garnets and Quakers played almost a perfectly equal game, but it was Greeley’s Nicole Weyne who scored the sudden death goal in the extra session.
Liv Prata found the back of the net with under 12 minutes to play in regulation time to tie the score at 1-1. Kaitlyn Coyne earned the assist, sending the ball towards goal off a penalty corner which Prata guided on past Quakers’ netminder Darby Robertson.
Lilly Scolli made a spot start with Tessa Zicari unavailable due to illness, coming up with four saves. Weyne was the only one to beat her on Tuesday night, doing so in the second quarter and OT.
Rye falls to 1-3 after the hard-luck loss, and will have more than a week to sit on this result before their next contest on Wednesday, September 23. The Garnets travel to Byram Hills for a road matchup beginning at 5:00pm. Replay the loss to Greeley here.
