The Rye Girls Tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating Edgemont on Thursday, September 10, winning 5-2. The Garnets, who are looking for a bounceback season, are off to a flying start in 2026 with two victories under their belt.
Rye won all three matchups in the singles aspect of the match, with Iciar Garate joining sisters Alexandra and Avalina DiMeo in clinching their matchups. Head coach Tony Campbell had to be pleased with the convincing efforts of his singles players.
In doubles, the Garnets won two of the four matchups, including two rookies in the super tiebreak. 8th grader Rosie DeFife and freshmen Arya Chandirimani split the first two sets before taking the tiebreak 10-7. Their efforts capped off the impressive team win, right as the sun began to set.
Rye (2-0) will aim for another victory in their next match, a road showdown with Mamaroneck on Tuesday, September 15. First serve is set for 4:30pm at Flint Park.
