The Rye Boys Soccer team secured a hard-fought draw against Mahopac on Wednesday, October 14, as they split the points with their Class AA foe in a 1-1 game. The Garnets continue to have zero losses this season, although their 14-game winning streak came to an end with this result.
“While we again made a significant tactical change at halftime, we told the guys that we didn’t think the second half would be about tactics as much as heart, grit, and desire,” head coach Jared Small told MyRye.com. “Our first half had left a lot to be desired, and once we started winning duals in the second half, we were able to get on the ball and show some of our quality.”
The Garnets entered the halftime break trailing for the first time all season, as the Wolf Pac struck in the 21st minute from right on top of the 6-yard box. Thanks in part to more ferocity from Felix Wismer, Peter Wilmot, and CJ Loizeaux, according to Small, the Garnets took over momentum in the second.
Rye found their reward for their late push in the 69th minute, as Kasen Scarperi – who else? – converted from inside the box after Connor Dehmer’s first bid at goal was denied. Scarperi’s team-leading 16th goal of the season tied the score with just over 10 minutes to play. Despite some more looks down the stretch, the Garnets failed to find the winner, as Mahopac sat back, content to draw.
“As has been the case every match, we learned a lot tonight,” Small reflected after the game. “Playing at the site of the 2026 sectional finals against Class AA’s top team helped us gather more information as we start to prepare for what we hope will be a return to this venue on Halloween.”
Thanks to a 14-0-1 start to the season, Rye has ascended to the #22-ranked boys high school team in the entire United States. The Garnets are #1 in the New York State Sportswriters Poll for Class A boys’ soccer. These rankings are thanks to being the only undefeated team in Section 1 despite the 2nd-hardest strength of schedule index out of 68 schools.
Rye will carry this resume with them into their next match at home against Edgemont on Monday, October 19, at 5:00pm.
