The Rye Field Hockey team won their third straight game on Wednesday, September 30, as they comfortably handled Scarsdale 5-0. The Garnets’ stars showed up from start to finish to help the Garnets jump above .500 for the first time since last season.

“Kaitlyn Coyne had a great game. She was able to score and get us on the board with two minutes left in the first quarter,” head coach Valerie Montano told MyRye.com after the victory. “Caroline Kmetz sent a pass to far post and Kaitlyn made a great play to keep the ball in bounds and score.”

Coyne ended the night with a hat trick, and Kmetz scored a goal herself to complete a multi-point night. The always reliable Liv Prata added a goal and assist as well, as three of Rye’s best offensive weapons shined. Beyond the goal scorers, the Garnet midfield and defense played a major role in the shutout.

“Cate Puzzuoli and Robyn Wilmot were all over the field today and gave us great energy and hustle,” Montano said. “Hillary Donahue had some great stops and helped us transition well into our offense. Lilly Scioli also stepped up big and played goalie while our starting keeper was sick.”

Since starting the year 1-3, the Garnets are 3-0 and have outscored opponents 19-1 in that time frame. They will take a 4-3 record and scorching hot offense into their first contest in October later today, Thursday, at 6:30pm. Rye hosts the Harrison Huskies at Nugent Stadium in pursuit of their fourth straight victory.
