The Rye Football team started fast and dominated Nyack on Friday, October 9, as they crushed the Redhawks 42-14. The Garnets scored the first six touchdowns of the game and rested starters in the second half en route to their biggest win other than the Eatschester game in Week 2.

“I thought this was our best total team effort,” Dino Garr told MyRye.com after the victory. “Everybody did their part. Overall, I was very impressed.”

The Garnets scored all 42 of their points in the first half before subbing their depth pieces into the lineup in the second half, when the result was no longer in question. New starting QB Johnny Shoemaker accounted for four total touchdowns, including throws to Ryan Hess and Luke Denvir. Denvir also scored on a fumble recovery – one of four turnovers for the Garnet defense – in one of his strongest games in his career.

Beyond a high-flying offense, the Rye defense stood strong for most of the evening. Their four turnovers were a reward for improved tackling, Garr noted, which helped the Garnets allow zero first-half points with their starting 11 in on D.

Rye (4-2) hosts Harrison in ‘The Game’ next Saturday at 1:30pm. The biggest rivalry game of the year features at Nugent Stadium in 2026, with the Garnets entering the contest off their big win over Nyack and Harrison either 5-1 or 4-2, depending on their Week 5 result vs Eastchester.
