The Rye Girls Soccer team extended their winning streak to five games on Monday, October 5, as they smashed Byram Hills 7-2. The Garnets played at home for just the second time this season and came away with their first victory at Nugent Stadium behind a season-best six goals from their offense.
“The Garnets came out strong against league rival Byram Hills, pressing the Bobcats early and controlling much of the play in the offensive end,” head coach Rich Savage told MyRye.com.
It did not take long for Rye to be rewarded for their pressure, as Charlotte Keenan scored twice in the first 19 minutes, including a ridiculous one-touch strike from well outside the 18, which went bar down. Harkin Brown scored quickly thereafter to extend the lead, which Rye stretched to 7-0 in the second half. Brown ended up scoring a hat trick and Keenan added an assist to her early brace.
Byram Hills’ two late goals did not have any impact on the outcome of the game, but they did put an end to Rye’s lengthy shutout streak. Prior to the midway point of the second half, when the Bobcats finally got on the board, Rye had not ceded a goal in 14 straight halves across six full games, the second half against Arlington, and the first half on Monday evening. It was the first goal against the Garnets since September 14.
Rye (9-0-2) hosts Harrison in their second of five straight – and well-earned – home games on Wednesday, October 7. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm at Nugent Stadium.
