FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 – RYE GARNETS @ SOMERS TUSKERS – 6:30 PM
The circus tent has been furled for the winter, and the King Kone roadside ice cream snack shop will close at the end of October to end the summer season. Like leaves that transform coloration and drop, it must be time for the annual renewal of the best of Section One North (Somers) versus the king of Section One South (Rye) – this time in a regular season clash. Historically, the teams have been evenly matched, and the similarity of the school colors of the Tuskers’ Silver and Red and Rye’s Garnet and Black make it even more difficult to tell the teams apart.
Expect three rings of action headlined by two potent offenses, as the three-time NYSPHSAA Class A Champion (2022, 2023, and 2024) Tuskers lock ivory with the NYSPHSAA Class B Champion (2023) Rye Garnets, who also ran the 2025 Class A table as undefeated state champions. The historical ledger card reads 12-11-0 (.522), in favor of the Garnets.
Always the contrarian, OG knows that this edition of Garnets love the challenge Somers represents. The 2026 Garnets dig deep for a 27-24 squeaker and a raucous bus ride back to 10580.
THE OLD GARNET, ALWAYS GUILTY OF BEING A “HOMEY”, SAYS: “TUSKERS LOSE THEIR LUSTER”. IT’S RYE BY THE WIDTH OF AN ELEPHANT’S EYELASH:
RYE GARNETS 27 – SOMERS TUSKERS 24
