More Detail on Possible Purchase Street Closure

It looks like some sort of downtown Purchase Street closure will happen as part of the pandemic Phase 3 re-opening, barring any substantial community objections. The street closure has been under discussion as a way to offer outdoor dining and get folks back out patronizing local business in a safe way.
The biggest question seems to be if Purchase Street will be a pedestrian plaza for limited hours each week or all the time.
“I previously have mentioned the planning in process to close Purchase Street on Thursday through Sunday evenings to create outdoor dining space to be used by neighboring restaurants. This project will attempt to find similar possibilities for restaurants not on Purchase Street,” said Rye Mayor Josh Cohn in an update.
“A new suggestion with respect to Purchase Street is to close the street entirely, seven days a week, from the beginning of phase 3 to at least July 15.”
The City is asking for any “thoughtful comments (not to exceed 425 words)” from local residents and business owners (comments can be sent to [email protected] and must include name and street address of the sender. Please use “Closing Purchase Street” as the subject.).
