VIDEO: A Year Later, Another Rye Pride Flag Vandalized
We have come a long way. But there is still far to go.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, residents on Soundview Avenue had their pRYEde Pride flag vandalized as a security camera captured audio of cruel anti-LGBTQ+ comments. The incident is a repeat of several that happened over the course of last summer.
“On Sunday morning at approximately 12:50 am four subjects threw a resident’s pRYEde flag and dragged a tree limb onto a resident’s front yard,” Lieutenant Mike Anfuso told MyRye.com. “While their identities cannot be made out their voices can be heard saying “Fuck the gays” twice.”
The incident took place on Soundview Avenue and subjects may have entered the golf course and onto Hix Avenue. Anyone with video that can help Rye PD identify the subjects is encouraged to contact [email protected].
In a letter to the Rye PD, the Mayor and the City Council, the pRYEde group organizer Genevieve Weber said “we [are] committed to protecting our LGBTQ+ community and addressing any discrimination and anti-LGBTQ bias. This recorded incident is VERY TROUBLING… I take incidents like the one that happened this weekend very seriously, as it highlights inner thoughts and feelings that could lead to violence.”
