Thanksgiving was observed throughout the Rye City School District, with celebrations taking place in a variety of ways. Students enjoyed feasts, reached out to others, learned about the history of the holiday, and reflected on what they are thankful for. Some highlights are listed as follows:

Midland School students participated in a food drive, collecting and packaging up close to 1,000 food items to be delivered to the Carver Center in Port Chester. Fifth grade students in Mrs. Vinci's class focused their procedural writing pieces on Thanksgiving, following recipes to create a feast!

At Milton School, the entire second grade hosted a Family Feast celebrating the differences and similarities between families. The feast culminated a study based on “community” and featured food from all over the world, made by generous families, served on decorative family tree placemats created by students. The children concluded the feast by singing a Family Tree Song, complete with sign language!

In Mr. Dreves’ class at Rye Middle School, students completed assignments in which they identified things that are truly worthy of being thankful for. They were encouraged to bring their written works home to share with their families. Reach Out Rye organized a food drive for County Harvest and Don Bosco.

Students collected over 600 items and the entire school won a “pajama day” reward for working so hard. Rye High School held a special Thanksgiving Lunch on November 21, where students and staff enjoyed an early serving of turkey breast, homemade cranberry sauce, homemade stuffing, oven-roasted potatoes, green beans, and apple cobbler.
