Wind, Coastal Flood Warnings, Freezing Rain/Sleet Arriving Sunday Evening

As of 6pm Sunday, the National Weather Service (NWS) is has a wind advisory from midnight Sunday to 8am Monday and a coastal flood warning from 5am Monday to 1pm Monday. The forecast shows freezing rain and sleet.

NWS is predicting East winds 25 to 35 with gusts 45 to 55 expected. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

In a notice, the City said it was “making preparations and increasing Public Safety and Public Works staffing to respond to any issues. We encourage you to make appropriate personal preparations such as securing outdoor furniture and removing cars from public streets for street cleaning purposes.”

National Weather Service detailed forecast as of 5pm Sunday:

Sunday Evening: Rain and snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 11pm, then rain, snow, and sleet between 11pm and midnight, then rain after midnight. Temperature rising to around 45 by 5am. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Windy, with an east wind 13 to 18 mph increasing to 25 to 30 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

MLK Day / Monday: A chance of rain showers before 1pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 4pm. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 36 by 5pm. Southeast wind 10 to 17 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
