Car Crashes into Fogama Restaurant on Purchase, 19-Year Old Driver Arrested
A 19-year-old Port Chester man was arrested on Saturday, March 12th after a police pursuit ended with a car crashing into the front of the Fogama restaurant at 92 Purchase Street in downtown Rye.
Rye PD spotted a car around 12:50am Saturday on Theodore Fremd Avenue and North Street traveling 54 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone. A Rye PD Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, fled at a high rate of speed, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the store front of Fogama restaurant at 92 Purchase Street. The driver of the vehicle and five occupants were assisted from the vehicle and the operator was arrested.
The operator identified as Leonardo Guerrero was charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd, and Reckless Driving. No injuries were reported. Mr. Guerrero was arraigned and released on his own recognizance with a return date of March 15th in Rye City Court.
