Rye ConEd Update: “Hopeful” Schools Will be ready
From Rye City & Mayor French:
CITY OF RYE CON ED UPDATE
8:00 PM – 11/3/12
The City and Con Edison report that Rye High School, Middle School, Midland School, Resurrection School, and the Rye School of Leadership are back online. Milton and Osborn schools have crews assigned for Sunday and we are hopeful that they will be online. City and School District officials are monitoring progress and will issue additional updates on Sunday regarding the reopening of schools.
When this effort is completed, Con Ed will begin restoration of large grid networks, followed by smaller networks and isolated projects. Though much more of the City is coming online there are still some locations that are problematic and will require more time to resolve.
The State of Emergency has been extended and will stay in place until the City is fully restored. Sandy was a major storm that caused extensive damage with over 40 road closures and an additional 50 downed trees and wires. We are down to 2 streets closed. If you have not called in your outage, please call 1-800-75 CON ED and report it using the automated system. Downed trees and wires should be reported to the Rye PD at 967-1234. Residents should continue to stay away from down wires and damaged trees.
The City has reached out to our senior groups and we encourage residents to check in on those in need. Finally, at this time Tuesday's election is still expected to be held at your regular polling place.
Mayor Douglas French
Let’s get these kids back in school or anywhere warm with lights. FYI, Japan had power back three days after the Tsunami. On a side note, here are some photos from around Rye after Sandy blew through.
