Rye Boys Varsity Soccer diced Pelham in the team’s season opener Friday. The Garnets took the away game 4-0.

“The group played with excellent unity and a strong sense of purpose,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “Everyone on the roster contributed to the win, and we are thrilled with both the process that we used to get here and the outcome. We enter a tough stretch in our schedule with Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, and Yorktown on the horizon, so the goal is to use today’s experience as a momentum builder.”

Tommy Broderick scored in the 3rd minute and the 19th minute to put the Garnets up 2-0 at the half. Jonas van Beurden scored a pair in the second half, and Henry Field and Stijn Terlouw each finished with two assists.

Kyan Cox–supported by outstanding team defending led by center back Charlie O’Rorke–earned his first career clean sheet. Max van der Voort and Julian Koide did an excellent job patrolling the middle, doing a lot of subtle things to help Rye dominate possession and limit Pelham’s scoring opportunities.

The Garnets host Scarsdale at home on Tuesday at 5pm – watch it.
