Boys Varsity Soccer Fords John Jay Cross River
Rye Boys Varsity Soccer forded John Jay Cross River on Monday, traveling back down I-684 with a 5-0 victory.
“We had a number of solid performances all over the pitch, and it’s always great to put up a clean sheet,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “We were able to use all 25 healthy members of the squad and the win was a total team effort that reflected the quality of our most recent training session. We were thrilled to see Sjef Smits play a key role on the backline over the final portion of the match and really happy with the connection between strikers Tommy Broderick, Stijn Terlouw, Joseph Chai, Yves Briginshaw, and Luca Parrode. Tyler Triolo also did a nice job solidifying the midfield throughout the afternoon.”
Rye opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Henry Field made the first of many successful dribbling forays into the box. He slotted the ball into Broderick, who unselfishly laid the ball off to Terlouw in a central area just 12 yards from the goal. Terlouw showed great poise, faked a shot to one side and cooly deposited the ball with his left foot. Kieran Traynor notched his third goal of the season in the 28th minute. The sequence began with Julian Koide showing a fantastic display of creativity, taking on two defenders before playing an outside of the foot pass across the box to a wide open Traynor. Broderick and Terlouw connected for the third goal shortly after to send Rye into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
In the 52nd minute, Broderick slid a ball past the John Jay backline to Koide, who found the near post for his first goal of the season. Three minutes later, Koide’s central midfield partner Jack Childs struck from 35 yards out with his first goal of the season.
Kyan Cox recorded 3 saves for his 6th clean sheet of the season.
The season is now 11-3. Watch the replay. Varsity plays Harrison 6pm on Wednesday (watch it).
