Rye Recognition of Excellence Awards to RHS Students
Rye Recognition of Excellence awards were given to the Rye High School seniors who were named National Merit Semi-Finalists and Commended Students at the November 14 Board of Education meeting.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation annually recognizes outstanding students based on their Preliminary SAT test scores. Approximately 1.3 million students entered this competition when they took the PSAT in 2022, during their junior year. Of those students, 16,000 students nationwide were named National Merit Semi-Finalists. These students place in the top 1% of students who took the 2022 PSAT. Rye High School had two Semi-Finalists this year: Patrick (Paddy) Harrigan and Dan Yamaguchi.
Of the 1.3 million students who took the 2022 PSAT, about 34,000 students throughout the nation were named National Merit Commended Students. These students placed among the top 2-and-a-half percent of students who took the 2022 PSAT. Rye High School had 11 Commended Students this year:
“Our warmest congratulations to the students,” said Rye City School District Superintendent Dr. Eric Byrne when giving the students their awards. “Their success is reflective of a great deal of hard work and dedication, not only by the students themselves but by their parents, their teachers, and the school District community at large. Congratulations also to High School Principal Suzanne Short, who will be the first to tell you that this year’s senior class is an exceptionally talented one.”
