Three Garnet golfers finished in the top 20 at the Boys’ Sectional Tournament: Ryan Mascali, Derek Bisceglia, and Eddie Molloy. Molloy, the junior and team captain, concluded day two with an individual score of 75, low enough to earn an invitation to compete at the 2024 Boys Golf Championship for New York State Public High Schools. He will tee off next on June 2 and 3 at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira, New York.

Mascali and Bisceglia managed to earn their honors despite being in eighth and ninth grades, respectively. Eighth grader Graham Erickson was another underclassmen who shined against older competition, just missing the top 20 cutline with his solid score of 84 on both Monday and Thursday of last week.

“We have not had a player qualify for States in quite a few years,” Rye Boys Varsity Golf Coach Pat Romano told MyRye.com. “With Eddie making it, hopefully that will open up a string of future players making it. Eddie has worked hard on his game & he deserves it.”

With so much success among underclassmen at the sectional tournament, it is not hard to see why Romano is optimistic about the future of his team. Mascali, Bisceglia, and Erickson provide a very strong pipeline for the next three or four years, and Molloy is set to return for his senior year in 2024-25 as well. First, however, he will look to keep the birdies flowing in Elmira next week.
