Sex Offender in Rye – Notice Sent by Rye City Schools
Rye City schools sent the following notice to parents today about a sex offender living in Rye. Notice is required by law. Note, the state web site given below only provides web based data on Level 2 and 3 offenders. Information on Level 1 offenders (the least serious) is only available by telephone.
The notice:
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The Rye City Police Department has notified us that a Level-1 sex offender named Larry Goode is living in Rye. He was convicted of possessing child pornography. Sex offenders can be listed from Level-1 through Level-3, with Level-1 the least serious of offenses.
This notification provides a reminder that we need to continue to reinforce discussions with our children about contact with strangers, safety measures, and immediate and clear communication with you about situations that make them feel uncomfortable. Our health curriculum includes expanded lessons about stranger awareness strategies and I know that you are increasingly vigilant about providing supervision for children at all times, as we are in the schools.
If you would like more information about sex offenders and Megan's Law, you may contact the New York State Sex Offenders Registry at 1-800-262-3257. Information can also be accessed on-line at: www.criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/index.htm; or, on the "Parents for Megan's Law" web-site at: www.parentsformeganslaw.com.
All information sources note that the most important measure you can take is to never leave children unsupervised. It is also my responsibility to state that this information is being provided to you for the safety of your children; anyone who uses this information to injure, harass, or commit a criminal act against any person may be subject to criminal prosecution.
Thanksgiving break is scheduled for November 26-27. Please enjoy the long weekend with your children and enjoy it safely.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Edward J. Shine, Ed.D.
