Rye Mayor: News from ConEd “Not Helpful”
With homes still dark for many across Rye, Mayor Josh Cohn is telling residents that the news from Con Ed is "not helpful".
In an email to residents late day Sunday, Cohn said Con Ed was waiting for outside assistance – presumably out of state repair teams from other electric companies – before being able to make material progress. Cohn said "the news from Con Ed is not helpful.
Restoration of power will accelerate only when emergency crews from afar arrive. Con Ed's prediction is 90% restoration across Westchester by midnight Tuesday. As Con Ed is aware, there is the possibility of snow on Wednesday."

Subject: Important message from the Mayor
Our DPW has worked through the night to accomplish some of the tree clearing needed in order for service restoration to begin. There remain places where Con Ed must do the clearing because wires are directly implicated.
Although we have succeeded in obtaining some Con Ed activity in the City, the news from Con Ed is not helpful. Restoration of power will accelerate only when emergency crews from afar arrive. Con Ed's prediction is 90% restoration across Westchester by midnight Tuesday. As Con Ed is aware, there is the possibility of snow on Wednesday. We continue to work to get restoration resources applied in Rye.
Our Rye Rec warming center is open until 7 this evening. The Rye Free Reading Room is open until 5 today.
We understand that the Rye City schools will be open on Monday. Dr. Byrne reports that Rye High School will remain open until 9 p.m. Monday night to serve was a homework center, charging center and place for families to come and be in a place with heat and electricity. The school food service vendor will be offering food. The City appreciates this kindness.
Con Ed is offering dry ice until 6pm this evening at 515 North Avenue, New Rochelle, behind New Rochelle City Hall.
The City is grateful to our hard-working DPW, police and fire personnel. We recognize the difficulty our residents without power are experiencing. We appreciate information from residents that may help us focus our energies and Con Ed's.
Please use 911 for emergencies. The police non-emergency number is 967-1234. City Manager Marcus Serrano's telephone numbers are (o) 967-7411 and (c) 424-3786. His email is [email protected]. I can best be reached at [email protected].
