Both the boys and girls sides of the Rye Varsity Cross Country Team came away with outright victories at a small Rye Town schools’ meet on Wednesday, September 25. Rye finished atop a leaderboard which also consisted of host Blind Brook, Port Chester, and Rye Neck.

Both sexes ran the 2.3 mile course at Crawford Park, as rain fortunately held off. Lily Oberbannscheidt came in first place overall among female racers, continuing to solidify herself as Rye’s star runner. Clayton Stark paced the boys side, finishing second among male participants, and leading Rye to the team victory.

“What makes this special for us is that all three of our coaches are Rye alums,” Head Coach Blair Moynahan told MyRye.com after the race. “Having the three of us working together to keep the strong running tradition at Rye going has made this a great season for the coaches as well as the athletes.”

Alongside Moynahan, Head Coach Bryan Johnson and Assistant Coach Jackalynn “Jackie” McGowan are Rye alums. Not only racing locally against local competition, but winning the invitational on Wednesday, was a huge deal for the team’s coaching staff.

Rye is not scheduled for any meets until Wednesday, October 9, at Edgemont High School. They will be racing against Eastchester, Edgemont, and Pelham in another smaller invitational. The start time is set for 4:30pm.
