Congressman Latimer Lands on Foreign Affairs & Small Business Committees
On Tuesday, NY-16 Congressman George Latimer reported he has been assigned a seat on the US House Committees on Foreign Affairs and on Small Business.
“I’m happy to make a contribution on these committees,” Latimer told MyRye.com. “I’ve long been active in Rye and other local Chambers of Commerce and I can bring those needs to proper attention at the Federal level with a seat on Small Business. Foreign Affairs stretches me into a new area of public policy with great impact on the nation: Ukraine, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and Europe.”
Latimer had requested to be on Transportation & Infrastructure and Financial Services, but told MyRye.com just before he headed down the DC that as a freshman Congressman, he “will have to see what cards he is dealt”. Typically Foreign Affairs is a coveted assignment. And while Latimer is steeped in local politics (city, state and county), he received a record amount of support from the pro Israel lobby who were using Latimer (successfully) to oust former Congressman Jamaal Bowman. Bowman was part of the left leaning “Squad” and had been targeted by pro Israel groups.
