A Recap of Rye Outdoor Track and Field’s First Three Large Meets

The Rye Varsity Outdoor Track and Field Team is three meets into their spring 2025 season. They opened the campaign on Friday, April 4, competed again the following day, and then again on Wednesday, April 9. “The season got off to a strong start this past week,” Head Coach Bryan Johnson told MyRye.com on Friday.
Friday, April 4: Fulton Invitational (Harrison)
“On Friday, the team saw strong performances both on the track and in the field,” Johnson told MyRye.com. In track races, Reid Thigpen and Rocklan Boisseau placed third and fourth respectively in the 100-meter dash. Justin McCarthy stood out as well with a 2nd-place finish in the 200M and 3rd in the 400M events. Ben Truman continued his strong calendar year, winning the 800M. He also watched as Claire Curran got second in the same race on the girls side. Other important results from the girls team include Lily Oberbannscheidt (personal record in the 1500M) and Riho Fukudome (PR in the 100M hurdles).
Sabrina Pereira earned second place in the discus event in the field section of the meet, and her teammate Kate Schatz won the triple jump. Calvin Holler for the boys scored a PR in the shot put.
Saturday, April 5: Panther Palooza (Rye Neck)
Just one day later, the Garnets took to cold, wet conditions at Rye Neck for another meet. Henry O’Rorke had the best finish with a 4th-place result in discus. He also finished 7th in the 100M dash. Fiona Marino came in 5th in the 300M and Parker Canna 6th in the shot put to account for all of Rye’s top ten finishes on a day where they gave most of their top competitors the day off.
Wednesday, April 9: Pentathlon Challenge (Rye)
The Garnets hosted their first meet of the spring on Wednesday as one of ten teams in attendance. “Athletes competed in the 100/110 hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump, and 800/1500, with each mark earning a designated number of points for the event,” Johnson explained. The unique style of meet squeezed the best out of Erin Ball, who ended up second amongst all female athletes, only trailing Phoebe Gauld of Eastchester. Eleanor Pandl was just behind in seventh. On the boys side, Aidan Schmidt was the lone top-ten finisher at sixth. Rye Neck’s Kyle Snow won the event.
What’s Next
Rye will head into spring break with the above action under their belts. Their next meet is at 4:30pm on Wednesday, April 23, as they welcome Edgemont to Nugent Stadium for a 1-on-1 home meet. This will be their second head-to-head competition of the year after they visited Pelham on April 2, with three large, multi-school meets in between. The Garnets will look to find success against the Panthers on the flip side of spring break.
