The Rye Hockey team won their second consecutive game in league play on Wednesday, December 17, outmuscling Byram Hills 6-4. The Garnets prevailed in the high-scoring affair despite entering the third period trailing 4-3 and playing handcuffed.
“In a game where 5 players were missing due to illness, we were shorthanded but gutted out a 6-4 win tonight,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com after the victory. “Some guys really stepped up for us and chipped in when we needed it.”
Colin Nigro, Will Weinman, and Max Niejadlik all scored two goals on the night, including Nigro’s impressive unassisted short-handed tally with 8:58 to play in regulation time. The sophomore’s second of the night proved to be the game-winner. Jake Souza earned two assists, both on goals from Niejadlik.
Rye (3-1) heads to Plattsburgh, NY for their next two games – December 19 against the Northeastern Clinton Central Cougars and December 20 against the Beekmantown Eagles. The Garnets went undefeated on their pre-holiday trip last year.
