The Rye Boys Squash team were unable to pick up a win in either of their matches to end January, as they fell 6-1 on Friday, January 30 to Rye Country Day and 7-0 to Greens Farms Academy the following day. The Garnets have now suffered three consuective defeats after seven straight wins to start the campaign.

In the first game of the two, Michael Talbott won his matchup at the #6 spot to secure Rye’s only point. “Talbott has shown true grit and determination this season,” Head Coach Quan Huynh said of the senior after the match. “[He] is still the only Garnet undefeated this season in all of his matches.”

The following day, Saturday, January 31, the Garnets fell once again, this time by a 7-0 score. The Garnets played shorthanded, without star junior Charlie Rodilosso, and could not keep up with Greens Farms Academy on the second half of a back-to-back scenario.

“The Garnets were clearly overmatched,” Huynh admitted on Saturday after the sweep. “We will use this loss as a lesson to compete against Greenwich on Tuesday.”

The Garnets will take a 7-3 record into that Fairwest League-defining contest on February 3, and will hope for Rodilosso’s timely return to right the ship just in the nick of time.
