The Rye Baseball team collected their second consecutive loss on Sunday, April 26, falling to Fox Lane 3-2 in nine innings. The Garnets, coming off a similarly-close 5-3 loss last Thursday, could not avoid the sweep against the Foxes, a team who – like Rye – advanced far into the postseason just one year ago.

Fox Lane led 1-0 for almost the entire game, scoring in the first inning before Clayton McCarthy shut it down. The sophomore ended with six innings of one-run baseball with three strikeouts. He exited with the lead after RBIs from Nolan Hutson and Jamie Morris gave the Garnets a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth.

Rye could not hold onto their 2-1 lead in the seventh inning, and they ceded a walk-off unearned run in the ninth to seal their loss. The teams tied with six hits apiece, but two Garnets’ errors ended up being the difference.

Rye (9-4) will look to regroup ahead of their next home-and-home series against Suffern. The first game against the Mounties is on the road tomorrow, Monday 4/27, at 4:30pm.
