The Rye Girls Golf battled to defeat Harrison on Monday, May 4, winning by the final score of 249-272. The Garnets earned their fifth straight victory and clinched sole possession of the regular season league championship for the second year in a row at Century Golf Club.
“Strong winds and a long course made the conditions difficult for playing,” Head Coach Rich Savage said after the match. “However, the Garnets remained strong and and each girl played a solid 9-hole match to help Rye defeat Harrison.”
Leila Kurbusi was the medalist with a match-best score of 44. Both Anna Bancroft and Elle Ridley finished with scores of 49 as three separate Garnets carded a score below 50. Tori Hobbins, Sophie Erhlich, and Iciar Garate all also started and aided in the winning effort.
Thanks to their recent hot streak – including a massive win over Ursuline – the Garnets (9-2) are league champions once again. This qualifies them for the 18-hole Sectional match on May 18. Before then, they have a match on Monday, May 11, at Pelham Country Club. The league championship match is also upcoming.
