The #1 Rye Girls Lacrosse team began their quest for a section title with an easy 21-1 victory over Pearl River on Tuesday, May 26, advancing to the Class C semifinals. The Garnets looked like they were playing their best lacrosse of the season down the home stretch, and that continued against an overmatched Pirates team in round one.

“Awesome team win in the Class C quarterfinals for the Garnets,” Head Coach Michelle Mason told MyRye.com. “We were dominant in every third of the field and showcased our pace of play.”

Rye scored ten times in the first quarter and led 14-1 at half, wasting no time pressuring the Pearl River defense with their multi-layered offensive attack. Ten different Garnets found the back of the net.

Beau Whaling, the Athlete of the Month for April, led all players with five goals. Annie Toulouse also scored five points, including a hat trick, and Mary Ebeling matched her teammates with two goals and three assists.

Mia Howson and Paige Tepedino came in right behind the top scorers with two goals and four points apiece. Stella Maresca, Blake Sasse, and Caroline Kmetz all recorded two, while Rose Denvir, Emma Giannetti, and Paloma Pepper scored one point each. Denvir led all players with fourteen draw controls, a season high. In total, eleven different Garnets notched at least one point as the team scored 21 goals.

#1 Rye (13-4, 1-0 postseason) hosts John Jay-Cross River in their semifinals matchup in the sectional tournament on Friday, May 29. The final home contest of the year, regardless of result, begins at 5:30pm at Nugent Stadium. Watch it here. Replay the quarterfinals win vs Pearl River here.
