Welcome to MyRye.com’s explainer series: who we are, what we do, why we do it and how we do it.

And we can already tell you when and where we do it. It’s every day, 365 days a year. And it is on this website and in our daily newsletter at 9:00 a.m. every morning (sign-up – it’s FREE).

Got Interns?

One of the things we’re proudest of at MyRye.com is our internship program. Each year, we give high school and college students from Rye the chance to get hands-on experience in a working local newsroom.

Our interns have come to us from local high schools and from colleges around the country — including Rye High School, Rye Country Day School, The Hackley School, Amherst College, Gettysburg College, Notre Dame, Smith College, Williams College and the University of Delaware.

And they do real work.

MyRye.com interns report and write stories, conduct interviews, take photographs, attend events, research issues, edit stories and learn how a local news organization operates.

Some focus on writing and editing. Others focus on photography or marketing. They work independently, collaborate with our team and get out into the community to cover Rye.

The goal isn’t simply to add something to a resume.

We want interns to leave MyRye.com as better writers, reporters, photographers and communicators — with published work they can point to and a better understanding of how journalism works.

And we learn from them, too.

Our interns bring energy, curiosity, new ideas and different perspectives to our coverage. They help us discover stories we might otherwise miss and allow MyRye.com to cover more of the community.

Some have gone on to write for their college newspaper. Some have even stayed with us. Charlie Morris originally came to run our summer intern program, and now he is a MyRye.com staff writer.

We offer structured programs for both high school and college students, including summer long internships and Rye High School’s four-week senior internship period.

Know a student who might be interested?

We’d love to hear from them.
