Rye City has banned leaf blowing between May 1st and September 30th. This year only, the blowing ban started June 1st. The City just mailed a notice to residents detailing the blowing ban.
Highlights of the new rules:
- No blowing between June 1 and September 30. Beginning in 2009, the leaf blower prohibition is between May 1 and September 30.
- You are not allowed to do this.
- Between October 1 and April 30 blowing is permitted; however, a leaf blower
cannot be operated simultaneously on the same lot with another leaf blower or any other
type of machine-powered lawn equipment. - You are not allowed to do this.
- Lawn mowers, outdoor vacuum cleaners and leaf blowers (during permitted season) shall not
be operated between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and between 6:00 p.m. and
10:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. - And whatever happens, absolutely no leaf blower hockey.
- Municipal entities, schools, religious institutions, membership clubs, golf courses, hospital,
retirement communities, cemeteries and driveway/road paving and sealing activities are
exempt, however exempt entities shall file a report to the Rye City Manager by
December 31, 2008 describing their efforts to reduce and minimize leaf blower use within
their institutions (should make for a great read…).
