Watching the Council, Flood Items on the Agenda for City Council Wednesday – August 13, 2008

Rye_ny_flood_04152007_elm_place(PHOTO: Flooding on Elm Place, April 15, 2007) The City Council’s agenda is out for this Wednesday August 13, 2008. See you at 8pm in the Council Room at Rye City Hall or on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 39.

Let’s check the batting order and highlights from the 12 agenda items:

  • Watching Council Meetings. There will be a bid award for new equipment for RCTV including cameras, controller, and monitors to record city council meetings. Also a request for the transfer of $54,896.00 from RCTV Fund Balance to RCTV budget for the purchase of replacement City Hall cameras. If you see the current cameras not moving to "follow the action" that is not because the operator is asleep at the wheel but because the camera cannot move
  • Flood Stuff. Includes consideration of Bid for dredging at the municipal boat basin (the Blind Brook empties there); a bid award for the Elm Place wall replacement for the City of Rye Department of Public Works (this wall caved in in April 2007 during the floods) and authorization to fund the design of a sluice gate at Bowman Avenue (The Rye Flood Action Coalition has been pushing for this one big time).
  • Taxes and Schools. Adoption of the 2008/2009 tax levy and tax rate for the Rye Neck Union Free School District.

  1. You did not mention that the City of Rye is once again meeting in Executive Session for 1 1/2 hours prior to the regular Council meeting. It seems to me that all of the decisions facing the residents of Rye are decided in Executive Session and then the farce of the public meeting takes place where our esteemed Council members act like they haven’t already decided on how they are going to vote on the issues while they were in hiding.

    Open Government in Rye? No.
