In the early tally from Tuesday’s Democratic primary race, incumbent Mayor Josh Cohn was leading his challenger Danielle Tagger-Epstein by a large margin with 60% of the votes counted.
The count reflects 64% of the in person vote made Tuesday. The results do not reflect early voting and absentee ballots. Don’t forget last summer when initial indications showed Meg Cameron had toppled incumbent Steve Otis for State Assembly but three weeks later the Board of Elections certified it was Otis who had scratched out a victory.
Cameron is now running the Cohn campaign, and regardless of the counting that is left, Cohn seemed to indicate he smelled victory after the polls closed Tuesday, saying on social media “Rye voters, I thank you for your confidence and look forward to moving us forward together.”
At 11pm Tuesday, the unofficial Board of Election results showed:

We will be watching to see how the results play out and how quickly the Board of Elections issues its final count.
With 100% of the districts reporting, the results are:
Josh Cohn 62%
Danielle Tagger-Epstein 38%
The absentee votes haven’t been counted yet, but the Cohn won by a larger margin than the number of absentee ballots. Besides, the absentee vote is expected to increase Mayor Cohn’s lead.
