Literary Festival Planned for September

Watershed Literary Festival - Rye, NY on September 23-25, 2021.

Three local non-profits are planning Rye’s first literary festival for the end of September. A celebration of the written word featuring regional authors, the Watershed Literary Festival is being planned for Thursday, September 23 until Sunday, September 25th.

Organizers the Rye Free Reading Room, the Rye Historical Society, and the Rye Arts Center will host the programs and are planning readings, workshops, interviews and panel discussions covering a range of topics including investigative journalism, contemporary fiction, humor-writing, memoir, and the publishing process. There will also be creative writing workshops for tweens and adults.

“The title, Watershed, has a dual meaning,” said Director Margot Clark-Junkins. “Rye is at the foot of the NY State watershed. All tributaries run down to the Long Island Sound and this waterway is central to what makes our area so unique. Metaphorically speaking, writers’ ideas reflect watershed moments in our culture and history.”

“We are thrilled to be part of the recent rising tide of creativity. We hope the festival lifts all authors, whether they be emerging, or established,” added Director Alison Relyea.

There is no charge to attend; however, a suggested donation of $10 per event is appreciated. Proceeds will be shared evenly between the Rye Arts Center, the Rye Historical Society and Rye Free Reading Room. Learn more.
