It has been about three weeks since Rye resident and current Westchester County Legislator Catherine Parker announced her intention to make another run for Congress, this time challenging sitting Congressman Jamaal Bowman in the upcoming August 23rd Democratic primary in the newly drawn 16th Congressional District (NY-16). She previously ran in 2020 in NY-17.

Now it is official. Last Friday Parker submitted over 2,500 signatures to officially put her name on the Democratic primary ballot, more than double the required number of signatures. She also enters the race with over $250,000 cash on hand and a number of local endorsements.

“I couldn’t just sit back and wait for Rep. Bowman to realize he represents more than just ‘the squad’,” Parker said. “I knew I had to step up to make sure that southern Westchester had honest representation at the table, ready to deliver results in Washington.”

Parker’s campaign PR does not neglect putting the third candidate County Legislator Vedat Gashi in his place. The campaign contrasts “[Parker’s] great grandfather’s milk delivery route tracked through Scarsdale and White Plains” versus “Fellow challenger County Legislator Vedat Gashi does not currently reside in NY-16 as drawn.”

It is only ten short weeks until primary day – but a long road ahead for Bowman, Gashi and Parker.

Here are some of the folks who have allied themselves by endorsing Parker:
