Martha Jo Brinkman, a fifty-four year resident of Rye, NY passed away on February 10, 2023 at the age of 93. She was born on August 19, 1929, in Cincinnati, OH, and was the daughter of Mathilda and William Macke.
In 1952, after graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Martha moved from Ohio to New York City with her sister. Together they opened a popular, avant garde furniture design store that received national attention for building unique furniture that was hand-made out of solid doors.
On August 21, 1954, Martha married Robert Brinkman, a marriage that would last almost 60 years until Bob’s passing in 2014. Together they had five children. A real trailblazer, Martha did it all; raising her family while building her company, the Door Store, where she enjoyed working into her late 60s.
She will be deeply missed by her family. Martha is survived by four beloved children: Roberta Billington, Natalie (William) Monaghan, Gregory (Beth) Brinkman and Jodi (Edward) FitzGerald, ten adoring grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one brother. Her husband Robert, son Mark, as well as four brothers and four sisters predeceased her.
