Ferry Service Arrives as Playland Celebrates Its 95th Anniversary This Saturday

Ferry service is arriving at Playland Saturday as the park celebrates it 95th anniversary. Park operator Standard Amusements is bringing back the historic ferry service for one day only, offering New York City guests an opportunity to set sail from Manhattan and the Bronx to Rye.

The pilot ferry service from the Big Apple to Playland this Saturday, August 19, will offer guests the opportunity to enjoy seaside views of the New York City skyline and Long Island Sound as they make their way up the East River and through the Sound to disembark o the Playland Pier. Playland is testing the feasibility of bringing back ferry service to its shores for future seasons.

Operated by NY Waterway, the direct, roundtrip ferry will make three stops at East 34th Street, 90th Street, and Throggs Neck (Ferry Point Park) before arriving at Playland. Available at $75 per person, tickets include the roundtrip ferry, admission to Playland amusement park, beach and pool, and lake activities.

The 95th Anniversary

For the 95th anniversary on Saturday, visitors can enjoy live entertainment, as well as dozens of rides and attractions, a day at the beach and pool, and fireworks. Musican acts include tribute act Larger Than Life – America’s #1 boyband experience – for nostalgic 90’s pop tunes, followed by popular tribute band ABBA MIA.

As we celebrate 95 years, we always strive to create dynamic opportunities and memorable experiences for our guests and larger community, as well as partnering with local small businesses and innovative creators to welcome families across the region whether arriving by ferry, rail, bus, bike or car,” said Jeff Davis, General Manager of Playland.

The celebratory day includes:

  • 2PM & 2:55PM – Get transported back in time as the boyband tribute group Larger Than Life performs hit songs from everyone’s favorite tunes from the ‘80s to the early ‘00s. The group has been entertaining crowds with covers of Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, 98 Degrees, New Kids On The Block, and more.
  • 7PM & 8:15PM – The ultimate disco experience with tribute band ABBA MIA, who will be covering the tunes of ABBA, Bee Gees, and more.
  • 9 PM – The day’s celebrations end with a fireworks spectacular.

Playland features over 40 rides and attractions, including the historic Dragon Coaster, Derby Racer, and The Whip, and other adventures catering to all ages and excitement levels. Playland also features new dining experiences including Tiki Beach, along with the brand-new amenities and rentals at Playland Pool and Playland Beach.
