At 9:30am Friday, the City of Rye urged flood prone areas to prepare for possible evacuation.

City message:

The National Weather Forecast anticipates ongoing heavy rainfall, possibly reaching 5 to 8 inches in certain regions.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 11:45 AM. Residents should move cars to higher ground immediately.

Residents residing in flood-prone areas should take immediate steps to prepare for potential evacuation.

The City has bolstered staffing levels at the Fire and Police Departments to address this emergency. The Department of Public Works (DPW) teams are also on standby to handle flooding and tree-related issues.

  1. As usual, the water is not just coming from the brook (which is obviously terrible) but the enormous runoff from Harrison onto Meadow Place – and also down Highland – which fills into a small basin and then in turn flows down into Indian Village, creating a catastrophe there. For years we’ve been putting up with this getting worse and nothing has been done. Water needs to flow down hill of course, but the sheer volume from Harrison into Rye suggests to me that Harrison is simply creating a big funnel of runoff right into Rye. Enforce the laws!
