Rye Boys Varsity Soccer blanked the Panthers of Ardsley on Thursday 4 -0 at home.

“This was a high energy performance from our group, and it was great for the team to get to play in front of a home crowd for the first time since September 12,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small.

Tommy Broderick converted a Shun Nagata through ball in the 9th minute to give Rye an early 1-0 lead. The Garnets had a multitude of opportunities throughout the rest of the first half but couldn’t quite convert.

The second half opened with a strong sequence off the kickoff, with Niklas Hofmann playing a ball into the corner and Broderick pressuring the Ardsley defender to concede a throw-in. Tyler Triolo launched a long throw into the box, Broderick skied above two defenders to win the header and force a save from Ardsley goalkeeper Leo Blank, and Charlie Margiloff pounced on the rebound to put Rye up 2-0 in the 41st minute.

The third goal came quickly, with Hofmann chasing down a ball deep in Rye’s defensive third. After touching the ball to the outside of an Ardsley forward, Hofmann hooked a pass up the line to Kaden Zion. Zion calmly played it back to Jack Gilroy, who one-timed a ball over the Panther backline. Broderick collected the ball, made a power move to the outside left of an Ardsley defender, and uncorked a left footed shot from 20 yards that beat Blank to the near post.

Fin Kearney opened his varsity account in the 72nd minute when he headed in a pass from Zac Ramsey. Kearney’s first career goal was well deserved as the pacy junior put in significant work over the last two matches to press the opponent deep in their defensive zone.

Senior defender Mauro Flores stood out for his exceptional play in the second half and goalkeepers Max Crothall and Martin Fields combining on three saves to help the Garnets record their third clean sheet of the season.

The Garnets are now 9 – 2. Watch the replay. The Gemstones host Eastchester on Saturday at 4:00pm (watch it).
