Rye Girls Varsity Soccer left Tappan Zee on the other side of the Hudson on Monday, taking the way game 3 – 0 before their I-287 victory lap.
“At the first blow of the whistle, Rye was ready for the challenge of this game,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage.
Within the first three minutes, Rye got on the board early with Sage Ruttenberg stepping in to win a defensive tackle and calmly turning past two defenders. After gaining space, Sage played a perfectly weighted pass over the Tappan Zee’s defenders and Isabelle Harvey timed her run just right and carefully chipped the ball over the keepers head.
For the rest of the half, Rye worked really hard keeping possession and moving the ball around Tappan Zee. Claire Nemsick led Rye’s defense stopping all the long ball passes.
As the second half started, Rye had came out strong again, gaining possession of play early. For the second goal, Lyla Keenan was able to dribble through two defenders and as others came to converge on Lyla, she placed a perfect through ball to her younger sister Charlotte who beat the defenders to the ball and chipped the goal.
Rye’s third and final goal came off a very similar play with Alli Koford serving the ball to Charlotte Keenan. Maddy Walsh did an outstanding job controlling the middle of the field, with Bowyn Brown and Reese Lejiuz. Tessa Labowitz had 5 saves for the shut out.
The team record is now 10 – 2. Watch the replay. Rye will host Ardsley on Wednesday afternoon at 4:45 pm.
