Updated Thursday 11pm: Community Synagogue will have a Shabbat service of prayerful solidarity with Israel followed by an opportunity for dialogue with the clergy and community on Friday at 6:30pm – see details.

Local municipalities announced a vigil for Israel will be held this Saturday at 5:00pm. The City of Rye, Port Chester, Rye Brook and the Town of Rye are hosting the interfaith vigil on this Saturday, October 14th at 5:00pm. It will be held at Lyon Park in Port Chester (331 Putnam Avenue). If there is heavy rain, the vigil will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (761 King Street).

Also Thursday afternoon, the Rye City Council issued a statement on the Hamas attacks on Israel”

“We, City Council and Mayor, are horrified by the Hamas terror attack on Israel. Though we are pledged to focus on local issues only, we are obliged now to recognize two things:

1) the Hamas attack is a barbaric form of antisemitism and

2) that antisemitism has been mirrored in blame-the-victim guises in statements issued near and far. This has meaning for all of us in Rye, whatever our religion or ethnicity.

We reject antisemitism. We reject terror. We reject hate.

All city council members and the mayor signed the statement.
